“You”, the student who will participate in Hack the Pearl 2019, hereby agree to all of the following points.

  • In your project, you are allowed to use code or tools that other people made, as long as you comply with the licenses.
  • You are allowed to use the internet to answer your questions.
  • You cannot take over other people’s work as your submission.
    • Taking over is defined as excessive use of other’s work with little to no original input.
  • Starting your project before the designated time when hacking starts is ILLEGAL
  • Any attempt to manipulate the git commit timestamp away from actuality is considered cheating.
  • Because cheating raises serious questions to the hacker’s integrity and harms the reputation of the hacking community,
    • In the event that a hacker is found cheating, they will be blacklisted from further NYU Shanghai Hackathons. Their activities will be reported to the hacker’s University.
  • Hackers are held liable for any breach of the NYU Shanghai Campus Rules, including but not limited to bringing contraband such as drugs, alcohol, weapons, etc. onto campus.
  • Refrain from any action that threatens the safety of a person or the public space.
  • Staying in the Academic Building overnight is strictly forbidden and is a serious violation of both NYU Shanghai policies as well as government laws.
  • Tampering with school property or the property of other hackers will result in the hacker being blacklisted from further NYU Shanghai Hackathons as well as a report to the hacker’s university.
  • Projects will be reviewed for any content that are considered exclusionary or offensive content.
    • In the event that offensive content is submitted, Hack the Pearl reserves the right to disqualify any and all projects at any point in time.
  • Hackers are expected to bring their own laptops, laptop chargers, and any peripherals or equipment they need to get their workstations functional.
  • Hack the Pearl will provide power extension cords and a limited amount of regular data cables. A flash drive is recommended for fast and convenient data exchanges.
  • Certificates will be awarded to every hacker team that successfully submits a project without being disqualified.
  • The Top 5 teams will be given a 10 minute demo time to showcase their project to everyone.
    • The 10 minute time limit will be strictly enforced and those that extend their demo beyond 10 minutes will be promptly asked to wrap it up and then stopped.
  • Trophies will be awarded to the Top 3 teams
